Randi Shedlosky-Shoemaker
Randi Shedlosky-Shoemaker is currently a psychology instructor and facilitator of the general psychology curriculum at York College of Pennsylvania. She received her Ph.D. in psychology from Ohio State University in 2010, and her B.A. in psychology and communication from Monmouth College (IL) in 2003. She applies a social psychological perspective in researching the experience of psychological transportation, or mental and emotional immersion, in narratives, including film and written stories. Her work has examined questions regarding the motivations behind repeated exposure to a narrative (e.g., desire to rewatch movies), the process of social influence during exposure to a narrative, and the relationship between fictional characters and self-perceptions.
