Jesutofunmi Omowumi

Jesutofunmi Omowumi has worked as a journalist, a researcher, a radio programmer, and an education administrator between Lagos, Nigeria; Flint, Michigan; and Columbia, Missouri. He has published several news stories on several platforms including the Guardian Nigeria and TELL Communications while working as a journalist in Nigeria. His fiction and poetry also have been picked up in places such as The Kalahari Review.

Omowumi received his B.A. in English at Covenant University in Nigeria. He received his M.A. in English, Writing, and Rhetoric, from the University of Michigan-Flint. He is currently a Ph.D. Student at the University of Missouri where he studies 20th through 21st century African American literature, African literature, and other global artistic productions that reject boundaries of America and Africa. He has taught writing at the Marian E. Wright Writing Center and Shop Floor Theater Company.

Omowumi lives in Flint, Michigan, and is a Lead Program Manager at the University of Michigan-Flint. He teaches students to see the body as text and as a site of critical knowledge in traditional and non-conventional contexts through intensive writing processes and workshops.
